As we leave behind the best week in golf, we are treated with another signature event on The PGA Tour schedule. This week we are headed to Harbor Town for The RBC Heritage. This was a riveting event last year that concluded with Matt Fitzpatrick taking down the defending champion at that time Jordan Spieth in a playoff. Heading into the event this year, it feels hard to escape the shadow of dominance that Scottie Scheffler is projecting over the rest of the golfing landscape. He enters this week as a heavy favorite over the rest of the field; and as we sit here at the start of the week, it almost feels hard to imagine a world where Scottie does not add another win to his resume this week. With that being said, let us get to our picks for The 2024 RBC Heritage.
Patrick Cantlay
In the non Scottie division, I think Patrick Cantlay is the most likely winner of this event. Cantlay has been in poor form by his standards. He had one of his better showings of the year this season at The Masters last week turning in a T22. A poor putting week let him down, outside of that he put out an above average performance in Augusta. He has put up a T4 and T11 as his best results in signature events this year, which shows he can rise to these occasions. I think in a week where a lot of the top players will be coming down from the high of competing in The Masters, Cantlay will feel like he still has something to prove this season. I think he gets the good showing he needs and wins The RBC Heritage.
Shane Lowry
This is very much a pick related to Lowry’s great history at this event. In three of the last five editions of this event, Lowry has finished inside the top ten and twice he has finished T3. Now Lowry had a truly egregious putting week at The Masters. The rest of his game is in much better shape than his T43 finish last week would suggest. He is on a run of approach play the last two months that is in the very good/elite level and I have no reason to think that will change this week. Lowry I believe is a great pick to finish in the top 5 this week at The RBC Heritage.
Matthieu Pavon
One of the bigger surprise stories on The PGA Tour this season has to be Matthieu Pavon. He already has one win to his name and two other top 10 finishes on the year. Datagolf has him as their 42nd ranked golfer in the world right now, but he is just not thought of in that way because of his career path. He is a career DP World Tour player who has his PGA Tour card for the first time; and he is clearly making the most of it. Pavon should not be this far down the odds board with the current form he is in, coming off a T12 at The Masters, and with the season he is putting together. Pavon is my pick for a top 10 finish this week at The RBC Heritage.
